Day 7 - Candle

I set out to find something simple, and maybe a bit different, to show a candle.  I found a floating candle in the drawer, but what to float it in?   Deciding to try to stick with the color scheme I've been developing (thank you, Marga...yes, really, at least so far...) I looked for a vessel that would show some color since the candle itself is a very pale cream color.  I found a plain glass vase, and filled it with water to which I added some food coloring.  I backlit the shot and placed some tissue paper behind my white acrylic board that I use for my water drop shots to give it the beigy-yellowy color.  It works!

Oh, and I was so surprised to see in all the shots I took that the candle flame reflected on the glass in the opposite direction.  No, there were not two flames, just the one reflected, but it was a nice surprise.

  1. One of the first things that I noticed was the reflection of the flame. Very nice! I love the color, clarity and composition. The reddish orange and beige are great together.

  2. You are so clever to keep using the colour scheme ... and to do it so well. The clarity and smoothness is just gorgeous and is a real treat to behold, the reflected flame an added treat..

  3. OMG! you will not believe it but I also did floating candles in a glasses. Mine is in a martini glasses but still. Again, we are in synch. Some sort of mind melt. Yours look amazing and I think the reflection of the candle making it 2 really looks great as if it had 2 heads. The color scheme will look great for your poster tool. Very clean and beautiful shot! 4. The depths you go to, to get the shot are really admirable, and that you have the ability to see the result in your head before commencing is also indicative of a great artistic mind, super shot.

  5. You are producing high quality images every day. I'm impressed by the combination of soft colours and crispness in this one. You don't only synch with Maggie in subject but also in elegancy.

  6. The reflection of the flame look so cute, especially since it is at an angle like that. The warm tones look great and fit in with your poster well. You've done a great job photographing the glassware and it's a lovely clean and crisp shot. Well done.
