My January, 2015 31-day photo challenge is part of an informal group effort, where many of the participants will be using the same list of subjects for their daily photos. We all see the same things differently and our various photos should provide an opportunity for us to appreciate different aspects of everyday items. I'm looking forward to an eye-opening and parameter-stretching month of photos from a talented group of photographers!

Well done capturing the texture so nicely and yes, the color will go really well with your poster. Not much you can do with the subject matter; I kind of cheated with my interpretation. ;-) Eury
ReplyDeleteNice muted tones and a great choice of subject, but I wish you had focused on the loops in the foreground, because the zone of sharpness being on the laces leaves my eye a little distracted by the lighter loops.
ReplyDeleteWell, you have a point, Kim. I did focus some shots on the loops, but then I figured the theme was shoelaces, so I decided to focus on the texture of the laces. I was shooting wide open, so had very little DOF (using my old 55 mm macro), and decided that since I wanted to keep the shallowest DOF, I'd go with the laces' pattern and the texture of the boot tongue. It was a toss-up, and yes, I do know foregrounds should be in focus, or if not, very minimal space should be soft. Oh well. But it will be a good visual for you to imagine me laying on the floor, scooching around for different angles.. :)
DeleteMy previous pair would not fit, they were blue, my current pair is a blueish gray. A bit boring colour but the only one that fit both my feet and my wallet well.
ReplyDeleteRules are there to be broken, personally I don't mind a larger part of softness in the foreground.
Great texture shot and a good colour match to your theme, Was there a reason you were shooting this on the floor instead of putting them on a bench? Though I can imagine the positions you got into trying to get this right.
ReplyDeleteSarah, I was using my carpet, which is light beige and which I thought would make a good background color. :)
DeleteVery nice texture and colours, but I do agree with having the loops in focus. In saying that though, I understand your wanting to keep the laces in focus. Hiking/work boots are always good for this sort of shot.
ReplyDeleteWell shucky darn...I decided to try to use the tablet to make comments, while lying in bed. What a disaster. Every time I accidentally bumped the thing, off it would go to some wild place. Getting the shift under control was not easy either. and then when you turned it it would go from horizontal to portrait. So after about 20 minutes trying to make this one comment, I cried uncle!! It wanted me to sign in here, and fought with me over that... I think I said when our desks at work got too full, we would delegate the overflow to our floor desk... it does have many uses. Then I asked if you had to go out and buy new shoes just for this shoot? It was suppose to be things we have in our homes :)
ReplyDeleteThese are Larry's hiking boots. He got them before we went to Yellowstone as his others were very old and worn out....
DeleteGreat depth and colour... very nicely set up.
