My January, 2015 31-day photo challenge is part of an informal group effort, where many of the participants will be using the same list of subjects for their daily photos. We all see the same things differently and our various photos should provide an opportunity for us to appreciate different aspects of everyday items. I'm looking forward to an eye-opening and parameter-stretching month of photos from a talented group of photographers!

Day 12 - Leaf
We've actually had rain for the last two days! Not enough to end our drought, but enough to make the ground wet, and knock a bunch of leaves off of the trees. There is a lull this morning, so I went out and shook some branches....... ;) Actually I had to bring the leaf in to dry it, as the water was causing all sorts of glare.

As queen of dropping I assume you let it swirl down and shot at the right moment. This looks lovely, brilliant softness in the background.
ReplyDelete(how many takes did your really need?)
Um.....it floated in too many directions and too fast to try to focus and capture. I did try it to see what would happen, but without a camera. So, alas, I hung it by a thread, but it was still moving around in the breeze... does that count?
DeleteI tried to do this with a bunch of leaves, hoping that I would get one in focus. No such luck. Very nice job Carol!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw this my first reaction was - I wonder if she caught it falling or hung it by a thread as I know it is very difficult to catch while falling as the air catches it in odd ways and you can't be sure where it will go and the buggers are fast too. So, yes, using a thread counts as going the extra mile to get the photo. I think it looks fabulous too with all the hot orange and red coloring; such a gorgeous shot! Eury
ReplyDeleteAwesome shot, looks like you caught it in mid fall
ReplyDeleteThank you all. Yes, I did some preliminary drops to see how it fell, and it fell stem-end first nearly all the time, so that's how I tried to orient it. :)
ReplyDeleteThe illusion of a falling leaf is well created with that slight blur, but of course, hanging it by a string gives you a far better chance of success. Even though they have left monkeys with typewriters for long periods, I still don't think there has been a novel, and your chances of a good shot of a falling leaf would, I suspect, be much the same! Very nicely done and the warm tones are most appealing. My leaf was also hung by a thread! Great minds...
ReplyDeleteYour illusion of a free fall is perfect. Always a pleasure to see your photos.
ReplyDeleteBTW, as I look at this I see vertical lines in the trees in the background. Those were not touched...It is a multi-trunked tree. The PS'ing consisted of removing the thread and some global sharpening and hue/sat. No blur added.
ReplyDeleteGreat colours in this and sharp focus on the leaf veins to the right. As a newbie, I have no idea how you did this 'falling' effect?
ReplyDeleteExcellent shot, at first I thought it was on a glass sheet, but looking at it now I don't think so. Well captured and it looks so good with the background blurred enough to make the leaf stand out but enough detail to see it in it's natural surroundings.
ReplyDeleteYou are so trick! Not only did you get it in perfect focus, but you got motion blur of it dropping. You must have nerves of steel.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done! The blurred trees behind do look like motion blur! I absolutely love the colours in this.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done, very believable and beautiful!
